The history of Rum Dictator begins in the late 18th century when the “Cartagena” region of the new Granada now called Colombia comes to the governor Sabro Arangio to handle the collection of taxes for the Spanish colony of those times. The governor was quickly recognized by the locals due to his power and personality and was called by them a “dictator” which means “ruler of the state”. The governor fell very much in love with the place and also with the drink produced there- Rum, which was made from sugar cane alcohol and was the main product in the trade and economy of the locals. 180 years later in 1913 when the Dictator brand had already become well known and known around the world, one of his descendants found the distillery- “Distilleria Colombiana” and began to build and upgrade the quality of rum with aim to making it the highest quality and leading in this category. For most of the years of activity the founders have been devoted to perpetuating the legacy of the dictator dynasty. Colombia today is geographically one of the 3 largest countries in the world in growing fields of quality sugar cane and of course in producing quality rum. The brand is now gaining international recognition and great success around the world and in addition to alcohol, coffee and cigars have also been added, with the main emphasis on luxury and fashion in the design that blends in with the excellent quality of the products. The drink has won many medals in tasting competitions and has become a thing there in the field.

  • The brothers of the Butran family settled at the beginning of the last century in Guatemala in South America when they brought with them the tradition + rich experience from Europe to produce alcoholic beverages made from sugar cane distillation. Guatemala was considered a poor country whose inhabitants made their living mainly from local agriculture and the Butran family invested and developed the rum industry in a country that now provides respectable employment to its citizens. The rum in Guatemala has gained international recognition as a protected original product bearing the name of the country of geographical origin in which it is manufactured with the quality symbol of the components (PROTECTED DENOMINATION OF ORIGIN – PDO). The rum in Guatemala is considered one of the best in South America and the production takes care of the quality of the process and the rich ingredients as well as great emphasis on the quality of the barrels in which it is aged. The aging process is very strict and the rum is aged in American whiskey barrels or sherry port barrels which give it a unique aroma. The special distillation method is a “solar” method in which the uncompromising quality of the ingredients is very uncompromising, from the vintage of fine and selected sugar cane and to pure and clear mountain water that gives the drink the highest qualities.
