The initial maturation takes place in first-fill ex-bourbon casks (American oak) for 5 years. This stage provides the whisky with its backbone of vanilla, caramel, and fruity sweetness. The spirit is then transferred for an additional 3 years of maturation in Sherry Amontillado casks (European oak). The sherry imparts a deep amber color to the whisky, along with layers of dried fruits, nuts, and warm spices that balance the heavy smoke
Aroma: A fascinating combination of thick woodsmoke with raisins, dried figs, and orange peel. There are also notes of old leather and tobacco.
Palate: The mouthfeel is soft and velvety. The smoke feels less “aggressive” than in the Raw version, and is replaced by flavors of dark chocolate, stewed plums, and cinnamon.
Finish: Long and warming. A combination of residual sherry sweetness with an ashy smoke that lingers on the tongue for a long time.
The whisky won first place in the World Whiskies Awards, in the category of Best Lowlands Single Malt, in January 2026. The judges praised “the almost impossible balance between heavy, Islay-style smoke and the elegance and cleanliness of the Lowlands region.”
